The Japan Foundation, New Delhi calls for Applications for “Theme based Japanese Literature Course – Part III”.

 

Aim of the course

As a continuation to the introductory Japanese Literature courses held in the last two semesters, this course looks into a particular aspect of Japanese literature. As it is often said that literature is a true mirror of the society, with some such theme specific literature courses we aim to look into the Japanese culture and society.

Level of the Language of the Aspiring Students

In this course at the outset we will study about certain aspects of suicides in Japanese society and its reflection in its literature, both in Japanese as well as English languages. But the works to be read in class will only be in Japanese language. Thus the aspirants of this course should have a minimum of N3 Level of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).

Outline of the course

As in this course we are going to look into the literary works which have suicide as their theme, first of all we will also look into the significance of suicides in Japanese society through various historical periods. After which we will read two such works in class which have different kinds of suicides as their themes. The evaluation will be held in form of a written test which will be based on the course work.

Certification:

Certificates will be provided on completing the course. There are 2 criteria- first, you have to pass the final test and second, the attendance should be 70% or above.

Application and Course Fee Payment

– Download the Application Form and Course Instructions from the website or obtain it from the JF reception (GF).

– Please read the Course Instructions thoroughly before filing up the Application Form.

– Submit the duly filled Form at the reception of Japan Foundation.

– Due to class size, telephonic interview will be conducted during 17 to 21 August.

– Those who are selected shall come and pay the material fee at the Japan Foundation by 24 Aug to finalise the registration.
