Training Programs for Japanese Language Teachers Abroad

Training Program for Leading Teachers of the Japanese Language
These Programs aim to advance the level of education and nurture research capabilities in persons playing a leading role in teaching the Japanese-language at a national or regional level, and individuals who are expected to play a leading role in Japanese-language education in the future.
Programs fall into one of two categories, depending on the target and training content.

Graduate Program on Japanese Language and Culture (Master's Course)
This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad and/or individuals who have experience in teaching the Japanese language abroad, who are expected to be leaders of the academic world of Japanese language education in their own countries, with an opportunity to obtain a Master's degree in Japanese Language education. This post graduate program is offered by the following two institutions:
- The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa (JFJLI,Urawa)
- The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS)

Advanced Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese Language
The Advanced Program is designed for individuals or teams of 3 people who:
- require more advanced expertise and skills as teachers of Japanese, and
- have specific challenges they wish to address, or
- have issues they want to resolve in the teaching of the Japanese Language (e.g. the development of Japanese teaching materials, teaching methods, or curriculums, etc).

Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese Language
These programs are designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad with an opportunity to improve their Japanese language skills and teaching methodology and to deepen their knowledge of Japan at the Japan Foundation-Language Institute, Urawa (Saitama city, Saitama Prefecture, Japan).
The following two types of programs are open to application from overseas teachers of the Japanese language in accordance with applicantfs level of proficiency and objectives:
(i) Long-term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese-Language.
(ii) Short-term Training program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese-Language.

Long-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language
This program is intended for foreign teachers who are early in their career in teaching the Japanese language. A training course in the Japanese-language and basic teaching methods will be conducted.

Short-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language
An intensive two-month course in the Japanese-language and teaching methods will be conducted for foreign teachers of the Japanese-language who have at least two years of experience in teaching the Japanese-language.
