Poushampa is an interesting game, which is played all over India by small children. We start the game with any two children deciding on two particular names on any topic but they do not tell these names to the other children. The two leaders hold their hand together in the form of an inverted V and they sing the following song in Hindi,

poushampa POUSHAMPA BHAI POUSHAMPA
LAL KILE ME KYA HUA
SOH RUPEY KI GHARI CHURAI
AB TO JAIL MEIN ANA PADEGA
JAIL KI ROTI KHANI PADEGI
JAIL KA PANI PINA PADEGA
AB TO JAIL MEIN ANA PADEGA

When the song is over, the child who is caught between the hands of the two leaders is asked to choose from the any two names of the leaders.
Suppose the names of the two leaders are "King" and "Queen" and if the child chooses Queen he stands behind the leader with the title Queen. Rest of the children are also separated into two teams in the same manner. In the end there is tog of war between the two teams.

♦ PITTHOO

Pitthoo is a game played by children as well as adults all over India. Number of players in this game can vary from 4 to 20. There are two teams with equal number of players. Seven to fourteen marble or flat stones are needed which are kept on top of one another to make a pile. This pile rests on a brick.
To begin the game, a coin is tossed to decide the hitter team and the chaser team. A player hits the stones(Pitthoo) with the ball. This player has to be 7 feet away from the Pitthoo. The players of the hitter team have to be spread out all over the field. The other team stands behind the Pitthoo to catch the ball when it is thrown by the player of the hitter team. If they are able to catch the ball, then that player has to sit in the stands and is out of the game, but if the Pitthoo is hit the members of the hitter team have to run in order to save themselves from getting hit by the ball thrown at them by the chaser team. At the same time, the hitter team has to build the Pitthoo again. If they are able to do so, they have to say 'Pitthoo loudly and then they are awarded a point. Any one who is hit by the ball has to sit in the stands. To get that player back, his team has to loose one Pitthoo or one point. Each player gets three chances. After the player's chance is over another player gets a chance to hit the Pitthoo. The game continues until all the players are out of the game.

Once all the players of the hitter team are out the catcher team starts hitting the Pitthoo. In the end the team which is able to make the maximum numbers of Pitthoo wins the game.

♦ GILLI DANDA

Gilli danda is one of the most popular games of India. It is played in an open, hard, rough and a dry area. There are two important things, which are required to play this game, a wooden stick and a bail. The bail should be 7 cm long and 2 cm wide from the center. There are some important rules, which have to be followed while playing this game. First of all, we have to dig a hole half the size of the bail and four centimeters deep, so that the stick can be put inside. The next step is to keep the bail on the hole horizontally.
Gillidanda To start the game, the coin is tossed in order to decide which team will play first. Once the hitter team and the catcher team is decided the player of the hitter team will hit the bail in the air with the help of stick. After that the players of the catcher team try to catch the bail. If the bail is caught then the player who hits the bail is out. Otherwise the players of the catcher team get another chance to get the player out by trying to hit the stick with the help of bail. If the players of the catcher team hit the stick then the player from the hitter team is out. If the bail misses the stick the player gets another chance to hit the bail.

The game continues like this till all the players of the hitter team get out. Then the players of the catcher team get a chance to hit the bail and the procedure is the same.
