The Japan Foundation, New Delhi Library

The Library of the Japan Foundation New Delhi is open to the public and its extensive collection covers materials on Japan written in various languages. It also has the latest Japanese magazines and newspapers.

Day: Tuesday to Saturday

Time: 11:00 to 18:30 (By appointment only)

Closed: Sundays, Monday, and the Japan Foundation New Delhi holidays.

Membership
  • The library is open to the public however, for using the library services, obtaining a library membership is necessary.

Note 1: Reference books on the reference shelves and the latest magazine, newspapers, and DVDs cannot be borrowed. (For reference books, RR has been written on the spine level of the books)

Library Services (only for library members)

Reading Room area – One can use the reading room one-day prior appointment of a seat/slot. It is available in two slots, the first is from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and the second is from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm. For using the reading room area and manga café, please make your booking on http://surl.li/bsvld

Reference Services

The library provides reference services for the collection and research information related to Japan and international cultural exchange. Requests are accepted by telephone, fax, and e-mail.

Loan Service

Library members can borrow the books, back volumes of journals/ magazines, manga & CDs for 14 days & extend the borrowing period of borrowed books up to another 14 days.

Holding & Reserving Items

Borrowed items can be put on hold or reserved.

Internet Use

Library members can use the internet for 30 minutes at a time.

Use of Audio-visual Material

Library members can use the CDs & DVDs for one hour at a time.

Photocopying

Library members can copy only printed material, @Rs.1 per A4 Size exposure. Photocopying is subject to copyright restrictions.

Library Rules
  1. If you have symptoms such as a fever, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, dry cough, or exhibiting any other symptoms relating to COVID-19 or any communicable disease within the last 14 days, please refrain from entering the Japan Foundation premises.

  2. If you come in contact with any person who has been diagnosed with be infected of COVID-19 virus within the last 14 days, then please refrain from entering the Japan Foundation premises.

  3. The thermal screening will be done at the entrance of the Japan Foundation and entry will not allow if your body temperature comes above 37.5 °C (99.5°F).

  4. No entry without a mask.

  5. One can carry only pen, pencils and some paper for small preparation. Personal books, notebooks, laptops etc. are not allowed to take inside the library.

  6. Be reasonably quiet & no loud disruptive behaviour.

  7. No food or drinks. The mobile phone must be switched off or in silence.

  8. Keep “social distance” from other users.
